Runable: Betting on AI to Boost Businesses Beyond Creation
When we talk about artificial intelligence, the image that usually comes to mind is of machines creating websites, applications, or art. But the Indian startup Runable is aiming beyond that. They have just raised $21 million to invest not only in creation but in helping companies find customers and grow for real.
The Series A investment round was co-led by Susquehanna Venture Capital and Nexus Venture Partners, with participation from investors like Together Fund and Array VC. After the investment, Runable was valued at $65 million. According to Umesh Kumar, co-founder and CEO, the idea is that small businesses need not only creation tools but concrete results. And that’s where Runable comes in.
From Infrastructure to Growth Agent
Initially, Runable emerged as an AI infrastructure startup. But upon realizing that users were increasingly interested in creating presentations and websites, the company decided to pivot to a more comprehensive AI agent. This move helped Runable achieve an annualized revenue of $2 million just three weeks after launching the payment system.
Today, Runable's agent allows users to build websites, applications, and presentations using natural language prompts. Additionally, the startup is expanding the agent to what it calls the "growth" side of the business, aiming to manage advertising campaigns, social media, and optimize business presence in AI chatbot results.
Challenges and Opportunities in the AI Market
Currently, Runable has about 1.7 million registered users, with a strong presence in the US, UK, and Japan. However, it faces challenges such as negative profit margins due to subsidizing AI usage for its clients. Kumar is optimistic, believing that the reduction in AI inference costs will help improve the company's economics.
Another challenge is standing out in a market where AI giants are developing their own agents. But Kumar believes that Runable's advantage lies in offering a complete solution, taking care of all the necessary infrastructure for small businesses to achieve their goals without needing to integrate multiple services.
Runable's Focus on Small Businesses
Runable is not trying to compete directly with coding agents like OpenAI's Codex. Instead, it is focused on helping small business owners who lack the time or technical knowledge to set up complex tools. The idea is that these entrepreneurs can simply ask Runable to acquire a certain number of customers without worrying about the technical details.
In practice, Runable is betting that the real value of AI lies not just in creation but in how it can be used to generate real results for businesses. The question is how they will handle the challenges of an increasingly competitive market and how they will continue to deliver value to their customers. It seems they are on the right track to prove this.
