OpenAI and the Path to IPO in 2027
OpenAI, known for its innovations in artificial intelligence, is preparing for a promising future in the financial market. Greg Brockman, co-founder and president of the company, recently announced that OpenAI will be ready to go public in 2027. Speaking at a Wall Street Journal technology conference, Brockman highlighted the growth of the company's enterprise revenue as one of the main factors driving this decision.
Growth in the Enterprise Market
Recently, OpenAI has stood out in the enterprise market, a sector where competitor Anthropic had already gained ground. Brockman revealed that although the beginning of 2026 was challenging for OpenAI, the company managed to turn things around throughout the year. He mentioned that in the first two quarters, the company faced difficulties, especially in the field of agentic coding, where Anthropic was ahead with its Claude Code.
However, OpenAI did not let itself be discouraged. With focus and execution, the company managed to reverse the situation. In the third quarter, OpenAI experienced a 70% growth in its annualized revenue, driven by a significant increase in the enterprise segment. Enterprise revenue, which previously accounted for only about 30% of the total, now represents the majority of OpenAI's earnings.
Strategic Partnerships and Lessons Learned
One of the milestones of this success was the recent partnership with JPMorgan Chase, which exemplifies the type of client OpenAI is currently attracting. Brockman emphasized that the growth was not just a result of one-off actions, but rather the fruit of continuous investments the company has been making.
Additionally, OpenAI learned valuable lessons when entering the enterprise market. Brockman highlighted that the company needed to demonstrate its commitment to the sector, helping businesses identify key milestones they could achieve with OpenAI's AI technology. Building trust and proving to be a reliable long-term partner were crucial aspects of success.
From Consumer to Enterprise
Just a year ago, OpenAI was primarily seen as a consumer-focused company. Many businesses questioned whether OpenAI was truly committed to the enterprise market. Today, that perception has changed drastically. OpenAI has established itself as a significant force in the enterprise sector, showing that it is possible to turn challenges into opportunities.
With an eye on 2027, OpenAI is confident in its trajectory and the achievements yet to come. The company believes that the right moment to go public is approaching, and Brockman has never been more optimistic about OpenAI's future.
