The Grok Challenge

Despite the ambition, the Grok chatbot is falling behind. Data shows that a tiny fraction of users pay for Grok, while competitors like OpenAI's ChatGPT are far ahead. Another issue is that Grok has yet to gain favor with the US government, one of the largest potential customers. Only three public mentions of AI usage were recorded among 400 examples.

What's more, Grok was involved in a scandal concerning AI-generated sexualized images, leading to lawsuits and even a ban in the European Union. None of this helps SpaceX's image.

SpaceX's plan is ambitious. They are working on multiple initiatives to expand their AI capabilities. Meanwhile, SpaceX already operates large data centers for AI training, but ironically, it struck a deal for Anthropic to use the full capacity of one of these centers. This could indicate that the current infrastructure was underutilized or poorly planned.

SpaceX is exploring new frontiers to improve how we process AI data. This could revolutionize the sector, but it comes with a price tag: over a trillion dollars. And the company still isn't profitable, with a growing debt of 29 billion dollars.
