Apple Glasses: Expected Launch in Late 2027 with New Features
Apple is aiming to launch its first smart glasses by late 2027. This is the latest prediction from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Initially, the glasses were expected to hit the market in early 2027, but the project faced some development delays. According to Gurman, the glasses will feature oval cameras, unique colors, and various frame styles. Apple's vision is that, over time, these glasses can evolve into a health device and eventually incorporate augmented reality technologies that improve how people see. However, that technology is still a few years away.
Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, views these glasses as his top priority before passing the baton to John Ternus on September 1st. The product will compete with others in the $200 to $500 price range in the United States. Much like Meta's Ray-Bans, Apple's glasses will have built-in cameras to capture photos and videos. They will also feature speakers and microphones for music, phone calls, and Siri-announced notifications. What's more, they may offer step-by-step walking directions.
Unlike the latest generation of Meta's Ray-Bans, Gurman does not expect Apple's first smart glasses to have an augmented reality display built into the lenses. That functionality, according to him, is only expected in a few years. Expectations are high, but it seems Apple is playing the long game. And, as always, the market is watching to see if the company can turn another product category into a success.
