Lenovo Accelerates in Formula E with Augmented Reality and Digital Content
Get ready for a technological race: Lenovo is joining the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship as the AR (augmented reality) and digital content provider for the 2025/26 season. Can technology make Formula E even more exciting?
This is where it gets interesting. In partnership with Formula E, Lenovo will use artificial intelligence and advanced computing to simplify live broadcast production and create more immersive experiences for fans around the world. The idea is to show how technology can transform the sport, especially in a championship already known for its willingness to experiment in the challenging environment of live racing.
Now, let's talk technology. Think of Formula E as an open-air laboratory. With onboard cameras, global broadcasts, and a colossal volume of data, applying AI-based solutions is quite a challenge. The collaboration includes three proofs of concept that will show how to tackle these challenges in a real sports environment.
- Immersive Connection: Bringing fans closer to the action with a human-like digital experience driven by AI, using Lenovo's xIQ platform. This means more natural and personalized interactions for fans, making everything more engaging.
- AI Video Optimization: Improving the quality of race footage with real-time color balancing managed by AI, covering the ten cameras onboard each Formula E car.
- AR and AI Broadcasting: Integrating augmented reality graphics into live broadcasts, providing more dynamic and data-driven storytelling to a global audience exceeding half a billion viewers.
With this partnership, Formula E not only continues to redefine what is expected of modern sports organizations in terms of technology, but also shows in practice how AI can increase operational efficiency and fan engagement on a large scale.
Dan Cherowbrier, CTO of Formula E, commented: "This partnership with Lenovo is an exciting step in applying advanced technology to both broadcasting and the fan experience. Formula E has always been a stage for innovation, and working with Lenovo allows us to explore AI and advanced computing in a live racing environment."
