Waze bets on AI to transform navigation
Waze, the navigation app that has become our co-pilot in traffic, is gaining new features powered by artificial intelligence. Now, in addition to taking you from point A to point B, it will suggest personalized routes based on your travel history and the city's traffic. And there's more: if you prefer to hit the highway instead of local streets, Waze will prioritize those options for you. But if you prefer, you can turn off this personalization in the settings.
The detail is that these new features are powered by Google's Gemini assistant, showing that the tech giant is integrating its AI into various products. With this, Waze positions itself better in the competition with other services, such as Apple Maps. And for those who enjoy chatting with technology, Gemini allows you to find destinations through a quick conversation. Just tap the voice icon and ask questions like "Find me an open coffee shop now" or "Find a gas station with the lowest price." Waze responds with a list of options.
Motorcycle Mode and AI Map Updates
Another novelty is the new mode for motorcyclists. This feature uses AI to identify specific shortcuts for two wheels and road restrictions, offering more precise routes and showing hazards like potholes, speed bumps, and narrow bridges. Initially, the motorcycle mode is available in countries like Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico, but the idea is to expand to more places soon.
Additionally, Waze now allows you to suggest map updates using voice commands. Imagine you encounter a closed street. Just say "The street is closed here" and Waze will send that information to local map editors. This functionality is being launched globally, allowing users to help keep the maps updated more conveniently.
Less Talk, More Music
And if you're one of those who prefers to enjoy music or a podcast during the trip, Waze has introduced the "less talkative" mode. With it, the app's interruptions are minimized, but you will still be alerted about hazards and route changes, just less frequently. This mode is available for all Android and iOS users worldwide.
