Spotify bets on AI to revolutionize your workouts
Spotify is taking a step further in musical personalization with its new Running Mode, exclusive to Premium subscribers. Imagine this: you are about to start your morning run and, instead of wasting time choosing the right song, Spotify has already done that for you. Using artificial intelligence, Running Mode creates playlists that perfectly align with your type of exercise and musical preferences. But for now, this novelty is available only in seven countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, and has not yet arrived in Brazil.
The idea is simple and powerful: less time searching for the right song and more time exercising. Spotify's Running Mode is available in the iPhone app and offers predefined programs for different types of workouts. By accessing the Fitness Hub, users find a dedicated interface for aerobic activities, where they can choose between steady-state or interval runs. The algorithm then adapts the music selection, syncing the beats per minute (BPM) with the cadence of the steps. It's like having a personal DJ adjusting the rhythm of the music to your workout.
The AI-guided workout
In addition to creating tailored playlists, Running Mode brings a differentiator: a virtual coach. This feature provides tips and alerts about the stages of the physical activity without interrupting the music. For now, these audio inserts are available only in English. The idea is that the transitions between songs are so smooth that the rhythm of the run is not broken. And, of course, you can specify the duration of the exercise and your preferred music genre, whether it's rock, pop, or electronic, so that the AI can work its magic.
It's interesting to note that this is not Spotify's first attempt to sync music with workouts. In 2015, the service launched Spotify Running, which was discontinued in 2018. The difference now is that Running Mode does not rely on smartphone sensors to detect the running rhythm. Instead, the user sets up their playlist, defining goals and workout style. This means you have more control over your workout experience while the AI takes care of the rest.
A new chapter for Spotify
With Running Mode, Spotify is positioning itself almost like a fitness app. Although it is not yet available in Brazil, the expectation is that this functionality will reach more markets soon. In the meantime, Android users will have to wait a little longer to experience this novelty. What is clear is that Spotify is heavily investing in artificial intelligence to offer increasingly personalized and immersive experiences.
The question that remains is: how far can AI take us in terms of musical personalization? Running Mode is just the beginning of a series of innovations that could transform the way we relate to music and physical exercise. And you, are you ready to run to the sound of AI-crafted playlists?
