Google Drive now uses Gemini to organize your files
You know that mess in Google Drive that you always promise to clean up, but never have the time? Google wants to solve this with a little help from artificial intelligence. They've released a global feature that uses Gemini to analyze your storage space and suggest where each file should go. This new feature, which has been in the testing phase since October last year, is now available for Workspace corporate plans and for subscribers of consumer AI plans, such as Google AI Pro and Ultra. But there's a detail: it only works in English.
So how can Gemini help organize your Google Drive? For those who have access to the feature, it all starts with a new shortcut called "Suggest file moves" that appears in the root of "My Drive" or within folders. When you click on it, Gemini opens an interface that divides recommendations into two options: moving loose files to existing folders or creating new folders to group similar documents. It's like Gemini is that organized friend you always wanted but never had.
AI does the heavy lifting of analysis, showing the selected file, the suggested destination, and explaining the logic behind the choice. And the best part: you have complete control over the storage. The tool allows you to deselect specific files or rename new folders before confirming the action. The transfer is done in batches with just one click, making the process quick and painless. For those who keep promising that they will fix the Drive "one day", this could be the perfect solution.
