Anthropic's Fable 5 transforms prompts into unique games
Fable's ability to create a variety of video games from a single prompt in Claude Code is remarkable. One example is the game Snake, where you are a Pac-Man-style snake eating apples non-stop. It is a return to the classics of the 80s, but with a viciating twist that makes you forget that you are not, in fact, a hungry serpent. Another game, Strata, places the player in an endless network of underground tunnels, where the goal is to light as many lanterns as possible. The graphics are simple, but the fact that all of this was generated from a single command is impressive.
Mollick also created Duino, a game inspired by Rainer Maria Rilke's Duino Elegies. The animation is charming, with the player wandering through a night landscape while snippets of Rilke's poetry appear on the screen. The gameplay may be limited, but the visual experience is a delight. In addition to games, Mollick used Fable to create an isochrone map, a visualization showing the travel time between two points. The precision and detail are jaw-dropping.
Software projects that once required entire teams can now be created from a simple prompt. This is cause for celebration for independent developers and a clear indication that the baseline capability of AIs is rising rapidly. For founders and operators who closely follow the evolution of artificial intelligence, Fable 5 is a relevant piece of data on the rapid pace of innovations in the sector.
The Fable 5 revolution makes us rethink the future of software creation. We are facing a scenario where the barriers to developing complex games and tools are collapsing. And this is just the beginning.
