Roblox Transforms Game Creation with AI on Mobile
Roblox is revolutionizing game creation by launching an AI tool in its mobile app. The new feature, called "Build", allows anyone, even those without programming knowledge, to create games from simple text prompts. Imagine typing "I want a cozy adventure game in a dense forest" and seeing the magic happen. The system generates an initial version of the game, which you can modify and share with friends.
The technology behind Build is powered by both open-source and proprietary AI models from Roblox. This means that the AI manages elements such as game mechanics, environment, characters, visual style, and sound. While other giants like Google, Microsoft, and Tencent have already explored similar tools, Roblox is bringing this to the gaming world in an accessible and innovative way.
The Controversy Surrounding AI-Generated Games
However, not everything is rosy. The ease of creating games with text prompts raises concerns among developers and players. The main criticism is that this could result in a flood of low-quality and repetitive games. Additionally, competition on the platform may increase, as creators will have to compete not only with other developers but also with AI-generated content, which can be produced much more quickly.
To address these challenges, Roblox plans to classify AI-generated games based on player retention. If a game is not played, it will not be highlighted. The idea is to showcase games with long-term retention, maintaining quality on the platform's homepage. As the company puts it, if no one plays, no one finds. This reinforces Roblox's commitment to accelerating creation without compromising quality.
New Features and Testing Ahead
The Build feature will enter public alpha testing on July 28, available to users in New Zealand aged nine and older who have verified their age. Users aged 16 and older will be able to publish their creations for a global audience. There will be a free basic version and paid options.
