Notion and Anthropic: Back to Normal After Outage

Sunday was not a quiet day for those relying on the integration between Notion and Anthropic. Early in the morning, Notion announced that Anthropic's Opus 4.7 and 4.8 models were experiencing degraded performance, causing a series of failures for users trying to run these versions in Notion AI. The result: the company decided to temporarily disable all Anthropic models in its automated productivity tool.

But like everything good or bad, this too passed. Twelve hours later, Max Schoening, Notion's head of product, expressed surprise at the noise the situation generated. He commented on the amount of people sharing the news, suggesting many were looking for a story about the quality of the models. According to public data, Notion's post was shared about 1,200 times.

Schoening downplayed the incident, classifying it as a temporary service outage. "This happens," he said, mentioning it's not unique to Notion. GitHub, AWS, and other giants face similar issues. And, of course, the good news: access to Anthropic's models was restored.

On Anthropic's side, a spokesperson explained that a brief infrastructure issue caused errors across several Claude models, but everything was resolved. They thanked users for their patience during the service recovery process.

In the end, what remains is the certainty that in an increasingly digital world, these failures are part of the game. What's important is how companies handle them, and in this case, Notion and Anthropic showed they know how to navigate the hurdles and move forward.
