Google NotebookLM Now Automatically Syncs with Google Drive

If you're tired of manually updating your sources in NotebookLM, good news: Google has solved this problem. The company is rolling out automatic syncing with Google Drive. This means whenever a file is added, modified, or deleted in Drive, NotebookLM updates automatically. No more having to manually resync everything.

This new feature is coming to all Workspace users as well as those using personal Google accounts. The idea behind NotebookLM is to make life easier for students and researchers by generating summaries, explanations, and answers based on the documents you share. However, until now, there was still a point of friction: the need to manually update when new information emerged. But Google is resolving this with this update.

The most interesting part is that this automatic sync respects all file permissions and exclusions. That is, if you lose access to a file in Docs, Sheets, or Slides, it will no longer be used as a source, but it will still appear in the sources list as a link. This way, you can request access again if needed.

Automatic syncing with Google Drive is already being rolled out starting today. It will be a gradual release, with everyone expected to have access within 15 days. This feature is available for both Workspace customers and users with personal accounts.
